“Function” or “Running” Indicators. Is that the right name for this mechanical watch complication?

I’ve seen a few watches that do away with the seconds hand, and instead use windows in the dial to reveal a multicolored disc, or other creative ways to indicate that a mechanical movement is running. And I don’t mean an “open heart” watch dial that showcases the balance wheel.

The only example that I actually have saved is the All American Time Co. “I’m not a crook” Nixon wrist watch where the eyes are cut out to reveal oscillating pieces of the movement that make Nixon’s eyes tick-tock…

Pointer Date, how does it work?

I’ve been looking into getting a pointer date watch and I’m especially interested in the Farer Lomond II. The price is right and I love the look. I’m curious if anyone more knowledgeable than I am can shed some light for me about how the pointer date function actually works. From what I can tell the Farer Lomond II uses the Sellita SW200-1 or the SW221-1. When I look up just the movement they are both shown with a more standard date wheel/disc.
