What’s in a milestone?

My signature reads that I joined here in 2018, even though I came here a couple of years before that. In that time I’ve started 280 conversations, but reacted to close to 9917 times. Yes, many many reactions or posts were to show what watch I chose to wear those days. I have spent a lot of my time here grappling for advice and guidance in the “Watchmaking” forum.

I have somehow made a few enemies, but hopefully made more positive acquaintances. I have also offered my opinions about watches…

Chase Durer unboxing

Well, I was so excited to get this watch. A Chase Durer quartz chronograph. Awesome green dial in steel on a mesh bracelet. Yup, I couldn’t click that button fast enough…not even to check everything out!

Great packaging, so excited!

WOTB 3-22-25 quartz edition

Ya, like I’m any good at quartz movements!

Still, that’s what I’m doing today. Cleaning, changing batteries, polishing stuff up. They need attention too, right?

This last Timex expedition is nice, has a metal case, but the black is wearing off and I’d like some suggestions as to what I can use to darken it up.

What a haul!

It’s no surprise that I collect ~~affordable~~/ cheap watches. Today I spent an hour or so at my local flea market (again).

I lucked out today, I walked up to a booth where I’ve seen watches in the past, and this guy did have more watches this time. Before I could pick out a couple that I thought I could save he said “I’ll take $45 for all of them.”

17 watches in fair condition, some keepers, some need a bit of work, over all I call that a score!

I just bought a small lot of vintage watchmakers tools and gadgets. Most of these are self explanatory, all are interesting and useful, but this first one I’m not sure what it’s used for (to be honest).

WOTB for 3-2-25 a couple of dress watches

Tonight I’m getting ready to finish up this fine Longines dress watch from 1959. 17 jewels, no shock protection, movement 23Z according to the markings. The parts are fresh out of the cleaning fluids and are ready to be joined together again.

I have quite a few Timex watches in the collection. Most are older, some are brand new. I’ve always been drawn to the Marlin models, and most of their more plain everyday offerings.

Curved tweezers?

I’ve been wanting to try curved tweezers for awhile, and to be honest I held back because The cost, and I already have multiple pairs of regular straight ones.

I finally get the chance to see how they feel, and I hope they are worth it. I found a set of brass curved tweezers from Italy.
