Matthew here. I am a new forum member, a long time watch enthusiast, and attempting to learn watchmaking. For my first project I wanted to disassemble and clean my Hamilton military watch since it was “simple” – not automatic – no date etc. well as you can see in the video below I ended up breaking the crown/stem thinking it was a split-stem (which all my research still points to). Any help at all about what went wrong here would be appreciated. Is this a fake? Did someone put…
