I sent my 2015 GMT II 116710 BLNR to service in Dallas last year because it began stop occasionally, and because after nearly a decade I thought it was due. It is my one-and-only, daily wearer. Prior to all of this I never had to wind it. I have noted that if I put it in the drawer overnight and don’t retrieve it until the next afternoon, it would occasionally/somewhat often stop, even after servicing. Checking the movement, I wound it fully and put it in the drawer untouched, and it stopped after exactly 48 hours, which I understand is normal.

Question is, can the self-winding mechanism degrade over time? Does self winding "fully charge" the movement? Should I make it a consistent habit to wind it once/week, even though it is my daily wearer? For the first 8 years I owned this watch, I never had to wind it, ever. Thank you, and apologies if this is a noob question or I missed a FAQ somewhere.
