From watch modding to BMW modding?

Oh boy, I’m really in trouble now. I’m about to replace my aging Lincoln MKZ with a new (to me) G30 BMW 540i. The one I’m looking at was optioned up with just about everything, save for the Bowers stereo (an impossible to find option) the leather dashboard, and the ceramic controls.

Yes, you can get a new leather dashboard, I checked. I’m not going to buy one, because I’m not (that much of) a lunatic. I can’t even begin to imagine what the labor cost would be in replacing an entire…

Farer’s best release yet?

I know these were already mentioned in the Farer thread, but since they got almost no attention there at all, I figured they were worth mentioning again.

I’m really liking this relatively new, more “mature” direction that Farer has taken lately. Still plenty of color on offer, but the colors feel more considered and designed, as opposed to the Farer of old where it often felt like they blindfolded themselves, picked crayons randomly out of a box, and whatever colors they grabbed, those…

Well, they’ve done that. They know they can make cases and dials as good as those $500-700 micros, they…

Just bought my endgame power amplifier

For as silly as the amount of money I’ve spent on watches is, my audio system far outweighs it (literally and figuratively). I’ve been agonizing for quite awhile after my former Electrocompaniet amp failed with a bad left channel, going back and forth between Ayre, Accuphase, AVM, Burson, Classe, Chord, Krell, Naim, Rowland, and Pass.

After ruling out Ayre and Pass for too high idle power consumption (I leave my amps turned on 24/7, and would prefer they not sit there drawing 400W from the…
