These are images of a staff which was removed from a Rolex caliber N-A (aka 600, 620, 630) balance.

The rivet is a 0.80 mm shoulder. This is for a 0.40 mm collet. Pivots are 0.07mm.

Other obsrvations are solicited…please chime in!

Gruen hairsprings are generally known to be soft (or kind of mushy, as my watchmaking instructor put it)…and thus easily distorted…often just under the weight of the suspended balance.
Seems that some one damaged the orignal and tried to replace it…but the collet was too large.

Steve and Si are too long time friends. They are collectors and dealers and generally have quality timepieces.
One of the pieces sold a couple of months ago is s Wakmann chrono with a manual wind Venus 188 movement. Service history was unknown.

A while ago I asked the SloMo Guys about doing a short segment on Accutron showing the beautifully sweeping seconds hand at a frame rate which would actually show it stopped between each oscillation of the tuning fork.
