I just grabbed a black Seiko Stargate from the Bay.

I wanted a daily wear beater and when I saw this, it was perfect. Pre-beaten. It looked in good condition overall, with obvious signs of wear. Like the patina on a classic car.

Literally the first time I put it on, the bracelet broke. I don't think the seller was pulling a fast one or hiding anything. The watch has clearly seen some use.

Is it worth bringing the bracelet to a watch shop to try and get it fixed? Or, give up the patina...

I found a Weishi No. 1900 on eBay for $5.30 (free s/h). I checked the store, looks like an importer of general Chinese electronics. Clicked back and forth a few times to see if it refreshed and disappeared. Read/reread/re-reread the listing to see if it was just a part for the 1900. I checked that the price was USD.

Ah, what the hell, I'll order it, they'll see the mistake and cancel it. Then I got a shipping notice.

It got here today. Brand new...

I've collected watches for a few decades now, finally got the itch to clean and attempt to do a basic service on a couple of thrift store beaters. I started pulling out my collection to gloat a bit, remembered that a couple of my favourite pocket watches were in a glass mug on a shelf. I have no idea what got into them or when. The mug has been sitting on a shelf in my bedroom for at least five years, but at some point at least two inches of liquid got in the mug. Judging from the...
